Worrell Ricardo Sterling

Winger (1983-1988)

Player

It was a typically bold Graham Taylor move to throw a shy 17-year-old apprentice in at the deep end. Worrell Sterling’s Football League début as a substitute at Old Trafford started a first-team career of fits and starts for seven seasons as a hard- working right-winger when for much of that time Barnes and Callaghan were in their prime. He became, however, a fixture in the senior sides at Peterborough United and Bristol Rovers. For the latter club he was signed by John Ward, Watford’s trainer-coach at the time of his early development, during which Sterling was a member of the 1981/82 FA Youth Cup- winning side. Much later he became a sports lecturer at Huntingdonshire Regional College.
