Richard Stuart George
Forward (1964-1965)
Ricky George failed to make the grade at White Hart Lane and his career total of Football League appearances was only thirteen, but he later scored a sensational winning goal for Hereford United of the Southern League which knocked Newcastle United out of the FA Cup. And in the previous season’s FA Cup he’d registered a hat-trick as Barnet, also of the Southern League, destroyed Newport County, then a Football League club, by six goals to one. While on loan he made six appearances in Wimbledon’s progress to the 1974/75 Southern League title. As proprietor of a sports-goods business he remained closely involved with Barnet after retiring, and elsewhere in the sporting world he was one of six joint-owners of the 1998 Grand National winner. In 2018 he was jailed for two years for money laundering.
