Richard Mark Johnson
Midfielder (1991-2003)
He came to England at the age of 16 in search of a football career, and after a spell in Tottenham Hotspur’s youth team he was fixed up at Vicarage Road with the help of former Watford defender Bill Shipwright. Richard Johnson was a strong and determined midfield player with a fierce shot, never more dramatically exemplified than by his first Football League goal – a thunderbolt to clinch a late win against Wolverhampton Wanderers, managed by Graham Taylor. Johnson made his League début while still a trainee, and 12 years later his contract was cancelled following a long-term injury.
