Matthew Thomas Martin Connolly

Defender (2015)

Player

A loan spell at Vicarage Road towards the end of the 2014/15 season enabled Cardiff City defender Matthew Connolly (a resident of Bushey, no less) to play a part in the climax to clinching promotion. His contribution included scoring a close- range goal which accrued from a surging run with the ball from deep in his own half. Astonishingly, for the fourth time in five years he was enjoying a promotion to the top flight, and but for an added-time Sheffield Wednesday equalizer at Vicarage Road in the very last match of the season, all four promotions would have been as champions.
