Kenneth Francis Jackett
Defender / Midfielder (1980-1990)
The junior half of the only father-and-son pair to have represented the club in first-team league competitions in peacetime. Bringing a cultured, thoughtful influence to the left side of defence or midfield, Kenny Jackett was only 28 and within reach of the club’s appearance record when injury ended his playing career. Although born in Watford, he won 31 Full caps for Wales, his Welsh father Frank having remained in the town after his own Vicarage Road career in the 1950s. Only John Barnes, with an equal number, has won as many Full international caps while on Watford’s books, and if substitute appearances are disregarded, Jackett is ten ahead of the field. He went on to manage Watford for one season (which was notable for a unique Football League record: nine consecutive draws away from home) and then led three other Football League clubs to promotion – Swansea City, Millwall and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
