Benjamin James Jones
Full-back (1947-1954)
He signed for Watford from Slough United as a hard-as-nails full-back for a £25 donation to the Welsh club with which he was still registered. After joining Slough he’d been ordered down the mines as a Bevin Boy, but fell ill and spent six months in hospital. Although told he might never play football again, he was soon to win Amateur international recognition.
