James Henry Strain
Centre-half (1957)
With Bryan Atkinson and Ernie Bateman he was one of three locally-recruited centre-halves who stood in briefly for Roy Brown during the 1956/57 season. Jimmy Strain first came to the club’s notice as a Berkhamsted schoolboy, and it was as an RAF National Serviceman that he made his three Football League appearances. In 1970 he married a Danish girl who was working in Chesham as an au pair, and very soon afterwards they moved to Denmark, where Jimmy served several clubs in coaching and managerial positions. He died while playing golf.
