James Kelly
Wing-half (1950-1954)
His progress as a talented young wing-half in nearly six years at Vicarage Road made him a crowd favourite and eventually attracted a club-record fee. Early in his Watford career he did his National Service in the RAF, for whom he made ten representative appearances. After six-and-a-half years and nearly two hundred appearances as a First Division player in Blackpool’s Stanley Matthews era, Jimmy Kelly became a leading player and coach in Australia before returning to the Lancashire town to begin a career as an insurance broker.
