Edmund William Alfred Smith
Inside-forward (1953-1955)
When extremely young, Eddie Smith made three appearances in wartime competitions for Queens Park Rangers, and subsequently while a Chelsea junior he played amateur football for Wealdstone. It was only after a season as a professional with Bournemouth & Boscombe Athletic that he made his Football League peacetime début at the age of 24, returning to Loftus Road in a Watford side which won 4-0. An aggressive inside-forward, Smith had already played for the club in a first- team friendly against the legendary amateur club Pegasus at the start of Vicarage Road’s floodlight era, with over eleven thousand present, and scored both Watford goals in a 2-1 victory.
