Daniel Gosling
Midfielder (2021-2022)
Dan Gosling was an experienced, versatile midfielder by the time he arrived at Vicarage Road in the middle of what would be a promotion season from competitive rivals Bournemouth. He quickly won doubters over with a gritty and impatient performance against his previous employers and scored a critical goal at Carrow Road as the Hornets followed the Canaries back into the Premier League. The following season would see him all but ostracised as he became the fall guy for a scattergun recruitment policy that left the Hornets with too many senior players. The following season saw a candid interview with a national newspaper shedding light on the questionable dressing room atmosphere at Vicarage Road. Overall his impact was far greater than 17 League starts might suggest, more than half of which were consecutive having found a new home as a dynamic solution to a right back problem until he ruptured his achilles tendon at Ashton Gate in the dying minutes of the last game before the World Cup break in late 2022. Out of contract in the summer of 2023, discussions were held over new terms, presumably at much less than he would have been on as one of the club's senior players.
