Charles Gallogly

Defender (1952-1954)

Player

On arriving in England in 1949, Charlie Gallogly (the first syllable of the surname is accented) gave his date of birth as 16 June 1925. He was, in fact, exactly six years older than that, but official records remain uncorrected and the lie has remained largely undetected to this day. He reached Vicarage Road with 76 First Division games under his belt, as well as Full international appearances for Northern Ireland against England and Scotland. In both matches the Irish were heavily beaten and he wasn’t capped again. But before that he’d also played for the United States of America, in a 3-2 victory against Israel on 17 October 1948. Normally a full-back, he played occasionally at wing-half for Watford.
